Jake Johnston

Neuroscience Research Assistant
Undergraduate

I am majoring in Neuroscience because the brain is so under-explored: I feel this is a field that I can potentially impact and, most importantly, enjoy. The brain is so cool!

One of the main reasons that I joined the BIB Lab is because, as a CNA, I have watched many people struggle with dementia-related mental illnesses and other mental afflictions, and I saw an opportunity to help understand those illnesses in a way we have not seen before. I also recognize that in order to do my own research in the future, I need to know computers, statistics, the brain, and how to be a good researcher, all of which I know I will be able to learn from Dr. Cobia and my peers. I am hoping to go to medical school starting in the fall of 2024

Sports are life-giving to me, especially volleyball, basketball, and soccer, and I look forward to any opportunity I get to play them. I also enjoy singing, camping and exploring Utah with my wife, mountain biking, and playing games with my family. Also, I can catch any small-enough food you throw at me with my mouth (think grapes, skittles, orange slices, popcorn, etc.).
