Dani Cimmino

Research Assistant
Graduate Student

I received my Bachelor's in Psychology from Brigham Young University in April of 2021.

Prior to joining the BYU BIB Lab, I studied sleep and the pathophysiology of insomnia for about three years, which opened my eyes to the world of psychological research. Through this experience, I received training in neuropsychological assessments and neuroimaging techniques, which helped me come to the conclusion that my ideal career would be research-oriented and serve a primary goal of helping other people. A summer internship at Johns Hopkins exposed me to clinical practice and the complexity of the relationship between brain and behavior. By this point, I was able to narrow down my research interests and found that clinical neuropsychology was my passion.

I joined the BYU BIB Lab because of a profound interest in the brain-behavior relationship. My research interests mainly involve the neurological underpinnings of mental illness and how cognition plays a role in the onset and maintenance of psychosis. I plan on using neuroimaging techniques as well as neuropsychological and cognitive measures to study the many unanswered questions pertaining to an individual's physical and psychological well-being.

Outside of the program, I enjoy hiking, pickleball, and art. I have experimented with charcoal sketches as well as pen and ink art for several years. I have also played the piano for about twelve years.
